I am so happy to share these foundation paper piecing quilt blocks with you! The Spring has Sprung collection has three blocks, The Tulip, Swirled Flower, and Watering Can blocks can be used separately or together. I have combined them in some of the photos as wall hanging / table runner, but they also look great separately as pillows, or perhaps a whole quilt of different colored flowers.

The pattern includes several different color options as well as a coloring page so you can make it your own. Patterns are easily printed on your home printer, and are formatted for US letter paper or A4. I just use regular printer paper, but you can use whatever you prefer.

Method: Foundation Paper Piecing
Collection: Spring Has Sprung

two tulips in a quilt block. a large blue one with several shade of blue and a white tip. Then a small yellow bud, both with green leaves on a light blue quilted background

Included:

  • Tulip Pattern – This is the easiest pattern to start with. Easy enough for your first paper piecing project.
  • Watering Can – The center swirl is a unique take on the classic watering can shape.  If making a tall wall hanging, put it at the top to water your flowers.
  • Swirled Flower – Has some small pieces near the center that add a lot of depth. Great for small fabric bits you can’t toss.
  • Wall Hanging Instructions: Give detailed fabric requirements and general instructions for a three across wall hanging.

A flower and watering can quilt. Body of watering can and the flower head are made of a fabric swirl pattern with yellow, blue and purple

Each Block:

  • Finished size: 8” x 10”
  • Seam Allowance: 1/4” seam allowance is included around every section
  • The center is a great place to feature a fabric you love. Consider fussy cutting a piece or using metallic or satin ribbon.
  • Has coloring pages to design your own color option
  • PDF pattern has two sets of patterns: 1: Black & White 2: Full Color

Materials

  • Foundation Pattern Paper: I like 20lb copy paper. Specific thinner foundation paper is available, and some people like using freezer paper.
  • Woven Cotton Fabric: Quilters cotton, also known as Calico is great for this project. This project lends itself to “Scrap busting
  • Each block takes a different number of colors and shade. For ease, you might like to purchase a fat quarter stack or even a jelly roll, which is wide enough for all pieces except the background.

♥ Speedy Ninja Tip: If you are new to paper piecing, using solid color fabric gives you one less thing to think about as you are becoming more comfortable with the method.

I look forward to seeing what you make! Don’t forget to post it in the Facebook group.
