Sometimes our little ninjas need a carrier hood to help support their sleepy heads, for shade, or to lessen distractions when nursing. Three strap options (Attached Snap Strap, Elastic Loops, or Tie Straps) allow you to make this hood work perfectly with your carrier. Plus, it’s easy to sew and comes with complete instructions.

Fits Happy Baby Carriers Made before Gen 2, Spring 2022.  Pattern update coming soon. Contact me if you need it before then. It’s a simple fix.

Strap Options

Attached Straps are perfect for use with a Lillebaby, Tula FTG, Tula Explore, Happy Baby, Kinderpack, and Boba.
Elastic Loop sides give you lots of flexibility. You can use this option on carriers with a cord keeper, like the original Tula and MJ. For carriers with out a cord keeper, add cord keeper to the shoulder webbing or attach snapping reach straps to the elastic loop. Tie Straps can be used on any carrier. Two long ribbons tie around each shoulder straps. Then the hood can be scrunched down the ribbon to adjust the height.   Lillebaby Note: Lillebaby hoods have a strap on the back for height adjustment. These are optional, but easy to add and make reversible.

But what snaps do I need for my carrier?

For easy use, this pattern includes three pages of snap templates, just select your carrier and follow the template for a perfect fit. Every template also tells you the size snap you need and where to put each stud and socket. You can download these templates from the Fabric Ninja Freebie Library too or Learn more about them in this post about the snap templates.

Get Creative:

Have some fun with your fabric! Hoods are made of two layers. You can pick some great fabrics that match, coordinate with your carrier, or just fun fabrics you love. Flannel or fleece will make a warmer winter hood. Mesh, like Koolnit (which I sell on Etsy), makes a great summer hood. You can even line it with satin to keep your little ninja’s curls from getting mussed.
