Winter is coming! It may already be here in your neck of the woods or slowing creeping toward you. Don’t let a little weather slow you and your family down, bundle up and get outside, even if that means on the way in and out of the grocery store. The UnderCover, Universal All-Weather Cover works with Baby carriers, Strollers, & Car Seats. One cover is all your need. You can get it HERE
Even if Jack Frost never pokes his toe into your backyard, this cover can still be super useful for windy and rainy days. It can even protect from wind and rain when made with the right fabric. The Undercover will lock in the dry and warm. Make your prefect All-Weather Cover, with the UnderCover sewing pattern available in two sizes. Little Kids (0-2) and Kid Kid (3-6).
The Little Kid size fits birth through 2 years old about 35.5” (90cm) worn legs in. It will still work with larger kids, being worn legs out or in a stroller as a lap/foot blanket. The Big Kid size fits children 3 -6 years old and allows older kids to be worn legs in and great stroller coverage to lock in all the heat. It is really big, so size up wisely.
Blankets are a great start, but it’s hard to keep them in place. Those kicky little feet make short work of blankets, and then they end up falling out of the stroller, never to be seen again. Or worse, disgusting and wet. You can use it in the car, and then it’ll be pre-heated for the stroller ride.
The bottom of the cover has a foot pouch to keep legs and feet warm. Around the edge is an elastic adjustment casing to seal out the elements. The main body of the cover also has a width adjustment elastic for a perfect fit. The top edge acts like a scarf. In the stroller and car seat the top folds down for kids that prefer their arms out. In inward facing carry position, it keeps back and neck area warm. It also allows you to easily see your child.
Babywearing comes in may form and this cover works with them all. Front or back carry, inward or outward facing, frame, SSC, or wrap I’ve your baby covered. Waist-less carrier? Yup it will work. There are several strap options so you can pick the best option for you.
This cover comes with a removable hood pattern that becomes a stand alone hat with chin strap. Choose between a hoodie shape or pixie shape. An optional dart is marked for ear placement. Any of the ear shapes from the Animal Elements pack (sold separately), can be be used here. I also have a Dino Spike pattern available in the Freebie Library, that works great in the back seam.
Covers are made of two layer of fabric and can be reversible, see notes in the strap option section. Pick some great fabrics that match, coordinate with your carrier, or just fun fabrics you love. You will see both sides of the cover when it is worn, so I suggest fabrics that coordinate. Fleece, flannel, and wool or some of the may materials that you can use.
Printing
You can print this pattern on Letter or A4 paper, then tape the pages together by aligning the cross hairs on top of each other. It does take quite a few pages, so to save you time I’ve included file for printing on A0 paper. Allielane in Abbyville can print the A0 pattern for you, and you can get your elastic shock cord, straps and buckles all in your order and save shipping.
Don’t want to deal with taping paper or ordering an A0 print?
Well, because this pattern is made of simple shapes I have also given instructions on how to draw out the pattern. You cut the pieces without paper patterns, or make your own paper pattern. Some of the metric numbers are rounded for measuring ease. You will still need to print the hood and pocket unless you order the A0 print out, but those are just a few pages.
